Aby's Nose

I've gotten a few questions about what Abygail did. So the short of it is: She was running down a LONG concrete handicap ramp, fell, & her face caught her. She didn't have a scratch on her hands or knees. We were surprised that all scabs came off by the following Tuesday! Her nose is still quite pink where it was and I think its still a bit tender, but I think she'll be fine.

Funny note: Through it all she kept calling the scabs scales!! Even this morning she asked about her scales and it took me a minute to figure out what she was talking about!

Sick Kids

My poor kids are sick again. It started with sore throats, took them to urgent care, did strep test and they came back negative. They sent us home telling us we were crazy and there was nothing wrong with them, probably just a virus! The whole time the kids are crying about sore throats and both have high temps. Yeah its a virus all right... Uhhggg! The hand, foot, and mouth disease virus!!! I don't blame the urgent care staff for not diagnosing since all they had at the time were sore throats. But the big ol' blisters all throughout my kids mouths should have been a beginning clue. Like I said I know they can't do anything with just blisters, but... I guess I just felt like they didn't care much! At least we got free doses of Motrin for both the kids out of them!

Anyway... We came home from the urgent care, treated the sore throats and fevers, and sent them to bed! Next day while Daddy went to get Older Brother and Older Sister. Jaycob fell asleep here on the couch and as he was sleeping I looked down and noticed he had rashes all over his feet... No big deal, he does sometimes get random rashes when he has a high fever. Yeah, by the time he woke up when Daddy got home the rashes were all over his hands too... So between the rash on his hands and feet and the sores in his mouth... Self diagnosed hands, foot, and mouth disease! Looked on the internet, called a few people with experience just to confirm... So of course my next calls were to people we had exposed or may have exposed us! Those are always the fun calls to make!

Several days in and we're still treating throats and fevers. They seem to be feeling better! Yesterday I'm trying to get Abygail to eat something since we're on day 3 of NO eating from her. She's standing in the kitchen and she tells me she can't eat. I ask her why and she tells me this... "Can't eat. Throat hurts. Take throat out and put it down here." all the while motioning taking her throat out of her mouth and setting it on the floor!!! Awwwww.... Like I didn't feel bad enough as it is!

Anyway... Seems as of today that we're in the clear, no fevers. Abygail has slowly eaten since yesterday, though she still has minor complaints once and a while. And Jaycob only has a few spots left on his hands and feet! I can tell you they sure are fighting like normal!

Abygail's Doctor's Appointment

Nothing spectacular here... She does weigh 26.7 pounds... They didn't get her height this trip. I took her in because she had the same really high fever Jaycob had a few weeks ago. So I just wanted to see what this doctor was going to say and to rule out ear infection.

Here's the picture we drew while waiting... And a few others!
Ended up she most likely just has a viral thing. Which does have a 2 week incubation period, so that would be almost the exact time frame from when Jaycob had a high fever. She did give us some meds to keep it from turning into an ear infection though.

Oh and yea!!! I went to a baby shower a little later in the day and Daddy just had to take a picture of that!

Abygail's Allergy Test II

We were able to go to Aby's allergy appointment this morning! I wasn't so sure what to expect, but we made it through!!

First, they got a whole lot of info from us. Then the allergist came in and went over all the info. Next, the assistant came back in and did the allergy test. This is the part I was unsure of how they were going to do it. I mean they told us scratch test, but how do they scratch?? Well, we found out and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be! They used something like this skin prick method. Except they had already put the allergen on the 'tray', our pricky thing was made of all sharp plastic (no needles involved. I'm sure it still hurt though), and it was all done on her back.

They tested for a total of 24 allergens. Well 22 with 2 control sites. We had to sit for about 20 minutes to see what her skin would do. My rave for this place though is that they brought us a nice little portable DVD player and we got to watch Dora and Blue's Clues while we waited! She thought that was pretty cool and talked about it a lot!

They rated your allergic reaction on a 1-5 scale. Abygail it seems is a 4 for peanut butter. A 3 for fish. And a 2 for cat, Dust mite dust, milk, and a dirt/leaf mold. So its NO peanut butter for Abygail!

The milk one is the surprising one. I mean she's drank at least 16oz of milk since she was 1. Anyway he would like us to do a 2 week elimination trial. He said it may just be that it gives her a runny nose or an upset tummy. So we'll work on that. The cat and dust mite one is kinda obvious. The mold one he said to not let her rake leaves or play in the dirt and if anyone in the house does either they are to shower right away... Though once again this is more of a watery-eye, sinus type reaction she would have to these activities. None of these smaller ones are an anaphylactic reaction so obviously we'll do what we can, but we're not going to put her in a plastic bubble to prevent her from coming into contact with them!

4/13 - We're working on switching her to the soy milk. She wasn't so fond of it straight up so we're mixing it for right now. Hopefully we'll be able to start the 2 week test soon!

Jaycob's Doctor Appointment

Jaycob woke up early Sunday morning screaming that his ear hurt. Well of course Sunday is the ONLY day that the clinic isn't open. Monday he woke up screaming the opposite ear hurt! Uhhhggg.... So I called and made an appointment for this afternoon!

Yep, he definitely has a double ear infection! Poor kid. They gave him regular old Amoxicillin.

Other Stats:
Age - 3 years 6 months 8 days
Weight - 28.7 Pounds
Height - 98cm./ 3 feet and almost 3 inches
Waist - 18"
Inseam - 15.5"

Now I have two kids who have snotty noses and ear infections... Mommy would like to hide for a week!!

I also have pictures of his drawings coming soon! Check back!

Abygail's Allergy Test

Well, we were supposed to have an allergy test done today. But I called them this morning and asked if the antibiotic would effect the testing. It doesn't, but they said if she does have a fever they can't do the tests. She DOES still have a quite high temperature so we had to reschedule her test for a later date!

I am kinda bummed because I did find out that it will be a scratch test done on her back. Poor thing.

High Temperature

So I took Abygail into the doctors today for a high temp. She's been sitting at 104. or above since last Thursday. Tylenol was bringing it down but not by much. The lowest she's been in the last week has been 101.4. So I took her in to find out that she has an ear infection. The antibiotic they gave her is Suprax.

Other Stats:
Age - 2 years 4 months 7 days
Weight - 26.4 Pounds
Height - 36"/ exactly 3 feet tall!
Waist - 18"
Inseam - 14"

I will add the picture she drew while we were there later so make sure you check back!!
Oh the sticker she got for listening to the doctor!

So Not Fun!!!

After our trip to the aquarium half of us ended up quite sick with a stomach bug for the next couple days. We didn't do anything fun except care for ourselves and the children! We were all disappointed that all of our plans had to be thrown out the window for a couple days.... I mean even the kids didn't really feel like playing together!

Mommy and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Today has been just a horrible day... Bright point is Jay pooping in the potty and asking to do so!!

Other then that today was for sure a "terrible two's" day for both of them!!

Spent two hours at medical because just as we were on our way out the door to go to playgroup at the park Jaycob slammed Abygail's thumb in the sliding glass door... The bottom of her nail came out through the skin... Some how the cuticle is still completely intact though! So it's not looking good for her finger nail...

That's just the short of the afternoon! It got much worse then that... But seeing as Daddy has watch tonight and I don't get a break... I'll have to leave it at that!

Sanitizing Day

Yesterday was sanitizing day!! The kids (and mom and dad) were feeling better so we deemed it the proper time to wipe things down. We wiped down everything!! Cupboard fronts, fish tank, TV and DVD buttons, tables and chairs, door knobs, light switches, and even stair banister!! The kids thought it was all great fun! First real smiles and giggles we've had since Wednesday or Thursday!

The good news is the kids are feeling better, not 100%, but better. We still have some yucky diapers to contend with and they still want to sit more then play. But it is only 0912!! Food intake is going well enough, right now they're snacking on dry Crispex.

The best news is I actually got to get out for a few hours by myself yesterday!! Something SAHM don't get to do very often. I can tell you I feel 100% better now too!!

Thank you all for the 'Get better soon' s for the children.

Oh Towels of Fun

Jaycob started complaining this afternoon that his stomach hurt. Bryan came home, I told him about it, and took off by myself to the grocery store. I came home to towels laying all over everything, Bryan sitting on the couch with Jaycob in his lap, and Aby running around like a mad woman!! Oh and lets not forget the washer already full of towels and clothing!!!

Jaycob laid listless on the couch from the time I got home until he asked to go to bed, where he is now peacefully sleeping.

Abygail ended up getting sick a couple times and is now laying here next to me on the couch sound asleep!

2 sick kids - heart wrenching
4 loads of laundry (so far) - yuck
1 roll of paper towel - ewwww

2 children sleeping quietly (for now) - Priceless
