Abygail's Allergy Test II
We were able to go to Aby's allergy appointment this morning! I wasn't so sure what to expect, but we made it through!!
First, they got a whole lot of info from us. Then the allergist came in and went over all the info. Next, the assistant came back in and did the allergy test. This is the part I was unsure of how they were going to do it. I mean they told us scratch test, but how do they scratch?? Well, we found out and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be! They used something like this skin prick method. Except they had already put the allergen on the 'tray', our pricky thing was made of all sharp plastic (no needles involved. I'm sure it still hurt though), and it was all done on her back.
They tested for a total of 24 allergens. Well 22 with 2 control sites. We had to sit for about 20 minutes to see what her skin would do. My rave for this place though is that they brought us a nice little portable DVD player and we got to watch Dora and Blue's Clues while we waited! She thought that was pretty cool and talked about it a lot!
They rated your allergic reaction on a 1-5 scale. Abygail it seems is a 4 for peanut butter. A 3 for fish. And a 2 for cat, Dust mite dust, milk, and a dirt/leaf mold. So its NO peanut butter for Abygail!
The milk one is the surprising one. I mean she's drank at least 16oz of milk since she was 1. Anyway he would like us to do a 2 week elimination trial. He said it may just be that it gives her a runny nose or an upset tummy. So we'll work on that. The cat and dust mite one is kinda obvious. The mold one he said to not let her rake leaves or play in the dirt and if anyone in the house does either they are to shower right away... Though once again this is more of a watery-eye, sinus type reaction she would have to these activities. None of these smaller ones are an anaphylactic reaction so obviously we'll do what we can, but we're not going to put her in a plastic bubble to prevent her from coming into contact with them!
4/13 - We're working on switching her to the soy milk. She wasn't so fond of it straight up so we're mixing it for right now. Hopefully we'll be able to start the 2 week test soon!
