Assessments

We had a speech assessment done for Jaycob today. The woman came and sat on our floor, pulled out a book and some blocks and put Jaycob through a series of test. Jaycob could easily match the colored shapes, name the objects, and answer the questions. The woman could understand most of what he was saying, she did notice that he drops letters out of words! Its never the same letters out of the same words or even in the same spot!! Like the one she pointed out was "Puppy"... Well one time when he said it he said puy, leaving out the P's. The next time he said it he said pppy, leaving out the U. So its never the same letters or in the same spots. So she did speculate that perhaps he just talks to fast. She did say that he was above and beyond his skill levels for other things, so of course that made me very proud!

She's not an actual speech therapist so that's the next step. With the assessments she did today they will decide what kind of specialist they will need to gather for the next meeting. So right now we're waiting for a letter to tell us when this next meeting will be. She said that from her knowledge Jaycob will qualify for anything between individual speech therapy to 4 day preschool. I'm kinda hoping that they'll assess him and he'll fall into the preschool range of things. I think the extra socialization and exposure to other/different people will be good for not only his speech, but his behavior as well. But I guess we'll have to wait for the next meeting to see what they say! I'll keep you all posted!

  1. I'm not surprised to see he was advanced. The way he can build and do puzzles especially is impressive! Just the little bit I've been around him and watched him play, you can really see his little gears whirling.
